On October 12 2018, CNCPEC co-organized the World Canal Cities Forum 2018 in Yangzhou City with World Historical and Cultural Cities Cooperation Organization (WCCO). Mr. Zheng Jianbang, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CCPPC), Mr. Wang Jiarui, former Vice Chairman of CCPPC, Mr. Lou Qinjian, Secretary of Jiangsu Provincial Committee of Chinese Communist Party, Mr. Brian Cowen, former Prime Minister of Ireland attended the opening ceremony along with other 300 international participants. The theme of this forum was “Protection, Inheritance and Utilization of the World Canal Cities’ Culture”. Participants had extensive and in-depth discussion on the theme and jointly issued “Yangzhou Initiative on the Protection, Inheritance and Utilization of the Culture of Canal Cities”.

Moderated by the Forum Chair Mr Zhu Minyang, Chair of CNCPEC Mr. Su Ge gave a remark, saying that the Forum must bring new development opportunities as 30 more than canal cities gathering together. He stressed that under the circumstance of the Belt and Road Initiative, the China Grand Canal Cultural Belt Construction is a signal of opening up a new era of renaissance of cooperation of canal cities worldwide.

CNCPEC co-organized World Canal Cities Expo and World Canal Cities Forum with Yangzhou Municipal Government and WCCO, since the first Forum which was held in 2007.
